Since more than 25 years Arctur’s Research and Innovation department has been serving as crossroad of creativity, failing and learning from mistakes, to live the interdisciplinary spirit by merging the most different worlds of science, art and business into one innovative energy. With this energy we want to transform the perception of tourism and business around it.
Tourism 4.0 is a name for the current trend of big data processing collected from a vast amount of travellers, to create personalized traveling experience. It is based on variety of modern high-tech computer technologies. Term originates from new paradigm in industry, known as Industry 4.0.
Many modern technologies (e.g. AI, VR, AR, blockchain etc.) can help remote places to grow into interesting destinations. To take advantage of the new possibilities the so-called research and development (R&D) needs to be embraced in the tourism sector. Slovenia is embracing it by funding the largest R&D project in tourism in the history of Slovenia, the Tourism 4.0 TRL 3-6 project.
Tourism Impact Model (TIM) is a comprehensive tool for modelling and optimisation of the tourism impact on a local ecosystem through fostering collaboration between different stakeholders. It enables assessment of the impact of tourism on different societal aspects (Environment, Economy, Culture, Health, Education etc.) in order to reach sustainable development in a specific geographical area by following the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

An interdisciplinary team of experts with backgrounds from big data and AI to experts on human behaviour and anthropology is developing technological solutions that is able to trace and analyse tourist flows and thus provide valuable information to the supply networks at all levels.

Tourism 4.0 Living Lab is a modern demonstration environment in which solution providers and other stakeholders test, validate and present their solutions, provide training and allow users to experience the complete T4.0 experience in practice. As an inspirational hands-on learning environment, it encourages the cooperation, innovation and development of the entire tourism industry.
